“Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventures Science.” Edwin Powell Hubble
Our aim is for children to enjoy the challenge and fascination of learning about science and to appreciate how important science is in understanding the world around them. Practical work is at the heart of all our teaching to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Ashdown House pupils are taught in well-resourced, specialist laboratories. The Science Department takes full advantage of the wonderful school grounds, including the woods and large pond as well as exploring the beautiful Ashdown Forest on our doorstep, where the children develop important fieldwork skills and learn about the local flora and fauna.
We believe it is vital to improve the scientific literacy of our pupils, so that they have the ability to engage in and understand contemporary scientific issues that affect us all. As they move through the school, our pupils are instilled with an awe and wonder of the natural world and a strong desire to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
