We have an excellent Learning Support Department in our cosy Log Cabin which enables us to assist children with specific learning challenges. The Department also monitors the progress of every child in the school. We believe that with the right support and individual attention, children can thrive at Ashdown House.
Our experienced and specialist teachers within the Learning Support Department work with children on a 1:1 basis and liaise closely with the wider teaching team to implement strategies to help pupils access and benefit from the breadth, depth and pace of Ashdown House's education.
We also provide EAL support for children for whom English is not their first language. We understand that some of our children may be bilingual or learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) and so our EAL experts work closely with each child and their family to support the acquisition and development of the necessary language skills. Where a need for extra support is identified, we’re happy to offer this under the guidance of the specialist EAL teaching staff. The EAL department work together with the subject and form teachers in assessing and helping children with EAL, whether through 1:1 sessions or additional in-class support.
